Born in Ahmedabad in 1956 and currently residing in Jaipur, Vihangini Purohit’s artistic journey is deeply rooted in the vibrant cultural tapestry of India. A self-taught artist she was mentored by the esteemed Sri Badakare in Mumbai who taught her the art of portraiture. Vihangini has honed her skills in acrylic painting on canvas and in creating commissioned portraits using conté crayons on acid-free paper. Her work explores themes of peace and harmony, inspired by her lifelong engagement with Hindu mythology. Each piece serves as a visual interpretation of these ancient texts, capturing their essence through vivid colours and dynamic compositions. Vihangini’s paintings are more than mere representations; they are spiritual narratives that invite the viewer into a world where the divine and the earthly coexist in delicate balance. Vihangini’s creative process is fluid and intuitive, often dictated by the inspiration of the moment. She experiments with different strokes and techniques, allowing her vision to guide her hand. This spontaneous approach infuses her work with a sense of movement and vitality, reflecting the ever-changing nature of life and spirituality. Her commissioned portraits, rendered with conté crayons, showcase her ability to capture the subtleties of human expression and emotion. These works, created on acid- free paper, ensure the longevity and preservation of her artistic legacy.
